One of the most neglected teachings of Jesus is His teaching on the Kingdom of Heaven. Yet everything He said was aimed at communicating the Kingdom. In this class, pastor Kory takes an in-depth look at Jesus core teachings and asks the question, "How does this change how we live in the world?"

"Exploring the World of the New Testament" looks at the relevant history, politics, and culture of the New Testament world to help us understand scripture more clearly. When we know the history we can get inside the head of New Testament teachers and learners to hear what they would have heard and understand what they would have understood.
audio Session 4: Acts 18-19 in Context
Paul had a rough time in many cities in the Roman Empire. The Jews were against him, the Romans ignored him, but be pressed on. In the meantime, Paul forged some strong relationships through his trials. This session looks at a couple of riots caused by Paul and why they turned out the way they did.
audio Session 3: Acts 10 in Context
This session takes an in-depth look at Acts chapter 10. When we read this chapter in light of its cultural and religious context, we see how revolutionary the story of Peter and Cornelius is to the Christian story. In it we see how faith in Jesus completely breaks down the "us vs. them" system of Old Testament religion.
audio Session 2: Us vs. Them
This session zooms in on many aspects of the Jewish religion in Jesus' day, especially the tendency to have an "us vs. them" mentality. Jesus, in almost every way broke down those tendencies to exclude others from God's blessing. In this session we look at a number of passages through the eyes of first century Jews to see how our understanding of these passages is enriched.
audioSession 1: More or Less Jewish
This session looks at the centuries before Jesus; the Israelite captivity, the rise of Alexander the Great, and the tempation of the Jews to lose thier distinct identity. Here we can see the division between Jew and Gentile growing by the day.
Have you ever felt you could never be the person you really want to be? One thing people over the centuries have found is that you can't finally do that by trying harder. It would be like wanting to bench press 300 pounds. No matter how hard you try, you won't be able to do--at least not until you train to do it. Spiritual Disciplines are part of the training.
